Long Range Spy Robot with Metal Detection Project

Mechatronics & Robotics fabrication final year project with complete documentation support.

Remote surveillance and hazardous-area inspection benefit from mobile robots that can operate beyond line-of-sight while detecting metallic objects. A long-range spy robot with metal detection combines RF control, vision and inductive sensing in one platform.

This project fabricates a wireless remote-controlled robot with chassis, drive motors, long-range RF link, wireless camera and metal detector circuit. The design covers mechanical assembly, motor control, RF communication, sensor interfacing and live video feedback — ideal for Mechatronics, Electronics and Robotics Engineering students.

Abstract

Security, search-and-rescue and industrial inspection applications increasingly use remote robots for safe observation of distant or hazardous zones. Adding metal detection enables locating metallic objects such as weapons, pipes or buried items while streaming video to the operator.

This project develops a Long Range Spy Robot with Metal Detection controlled via RF transmitter/receiver. Key subsystems include the wheeled chassis and drive motors, motor driver, long-range RF modules, wireless camera for live video, metal detector coil and signal processing, and battery power. The robot demonstrates integration of mechanics, electronics, RF communication and sensing suitable for academic evaluation.

It is an excellent final-year project for Mechatronics, Electronics, ECE, Robotics and Instrumentation students, combining fabrication, embedded control and wireless systems.

Working Principle

  • Operator sends direction commands via RF transmitter; receiver on robot drives motors through a motor driver.
  • Wireless camera streams live video to a remote display for navigation and surveillance.
  • Metal detector coil generates an electromagnetic field; nearby metal changes inductance/frequency and triggers an alert.
  • Battery pack powers motors, RF, camera and sensing electronics for mobile operation.

Advantages

  • Remote operation beyond direct line-of-sight for safer inspection.
  • Combined video surveillance and metal detection in one platform.
  • Clear demonstration of RF control, motor drive and sensor interfacing.
  • Expandable with additional sensors or autonomous modes for advanced study.

Challenges

  • Maintaining reliable RF link and video quality over intended range.
  • Balancing battery capacity, weight and runtime.
  • Metal detector sensitivity versus false triggers and ground effect.
  • Stable chassis and motor control for outdoor or rough surfaces.
