Agricultural Robot Project

Mechanical & Agricultural Mechatronics fabrication final year project with complete documentation support.

Agricultural robots reduce labour intensity for repetitive field tasks such as seed sowing, irrigation and crop monitoring. A compact wheeled platform with actuators and optional sensors provides a practical demonstration of farm automation for engineering students.

This project fabricates an agricultural robot with a rugged chassis, dual drive motors, seed dispensing mechanism, irrigation pump and control electronics. The design covers frame fabrication, drive and implement mounting, power distribution and optional wireless control — ideal for Mechanical, Mechatronics, Agriculture and Robotics Engineering students.

Abstract

Precision agriculture and labour shortages have increased interest in mobile robots that can perform seeding, watering and monitoring tasks on small farms and demonstration plots. A multi-function agricultural robot combines mobility with simple implements for educational and prototype use.

This project develops an Agricultural Robot with a wheeled chassis, dual drive motors, seed dispenser, irrigation system and control unit. Key subsystems include structural fabrication, drive and implement actuation, power supply and optional remote or autonomous control. The unit demonstrates farm automation, mechatronics and mobile robotics suitable for academic evaluation.

It is an excellent final-year project for Mechanical, Mechatronics, Agriculture and Robotics Engineering students, combining fabrication, vehicle design and agri-tech applications.

Working Principle

  • Drive motors propel the chassis over the field; steering may be differential or mechanical.
  • Seed dispenser releases seeds at controlled intervals as the robot advances.
  • Irrigation pump delivers water to nozzles or drippers along the path.
  • Control unit (manual, remote or simple programmed sequence) coordinates motion and implements.

Advantages

  • Reduces manual labour for repetitive seeding and watering tasks.
  • Demonstrates multi-function farm automation on a compact platform.
  • Modular design allows focus on sowing, irrigation or monitoring.
  • Strong educational value for mechatronics and agri-engineering.

Challenges

  • Traction and ground clearance on uneven field surfaces.
  • Synchronising seed drop rate with robot speed for uniform spacing.
  • Battery life under simultaneous drive and pump loads.
  • Protecting electronics and mechanisms from dust and moisture.
