Ground Line Marking Machine Project

Mechanical & Ground maintenance final year project with complete documentation support.

Accurate and consistent line marking is essential for sports fields, playgrounds, parking areas and temporary road markings. Manual methods are slow and uneven; a dedicated ground line marking machine delivers uniform lines with less effort.

This project fabricates a Ground Line Marking Machine that dispenses chalk powder or paint through a controlled outlet while being pushed or driven along a guided path. The design covers frame fabrication, hopper and dispenser, marking wheel or nozzle, guide system and mobility — ideal for Mechanical, Production and Manufacturing Engineering students.

Abstract

Sports grounds, athletic tracks and temporary road layouts require clear, straight and uniform lines. Traditional hand marking with string and powder is time-consuming and inconsistent. A mechanical ground line marking machine improves speed, accuracy and repeatability.

This project develops a Ground Line Marking Machine that carries a hopper of chalk or paint and dispenses it in a controlled stream or band as the unit is moved forward. Key subsystems include the wheeled frame, material hopper, metering or gravity dispenser, marking outlet (wheel or nozzle), guide roller or pointer, and handle for operator control. The unit demonstrates practical machine design for ground maintenance applications suitable for academic evaluation.

It is an excellent final-year project for Mechanical, Production, Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering students, combining fabrication, material handling and field utility.

Working Principle

  • Operator pushes or drives the machine along the desired line path using the handle and guide.
  • Chalk powder or paint from the hopper is metered through an adjustable outlet or marking wheel.
  • Material is deposited continuously onto the ground surface creating a uniform line.
  • Guide mechanism or pointer helps maintain straight alignment during travel.

Advantages

  • Faster and more uniform line marking compared to fully manual methods.
  • Simple, low-cost design using standard mechanical components.
  • Suitable for sports fields, playgrounds, parking lots and temporary layouts.
  • Clear demonstration of material metering, frame design and operator ergonomics.

Challenges

  • Consistent material flow without clogging for different powders or paints.
  • Maintaining straight lines on uneven ground surfaces.
  • Adjustable line width and density control.
  • Frame stability and ease of handling during continuous operation.
