Abstract
Suspended sand and fine solids in water streams cause equipment wear, pipeline blockages and environmental pollution. This project presents a Sand Filter and Separator system designed to remove sand particles efficiently through a combination of gravity settling and multi-layer sand-media filtration.
The fabricated unit includes an inlet chamber, separator section, graded sand filter bed, collection tank, pump and valve controls. Water or slurry enters the system, heavier sand settles or is retained in the media bed, and clarified water exits for reuse or safe discharge.
It is a practical final-year project for mechanical and environmental engineering students focusing on fluid mechanics, filtration principles, fabrication and sustainable water treatment.
